First International Composition Contest
„Academician Prof. Marin Goleminov

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the composer Marin Goleminov (1908 – 2000), Orange
Factory psychoacoustic arts organizes an international composition contest for chamber music.

Among his generation, Marin Goleminov was the most distinguished Bulgarian composer. Being a
pupil of Vincent d'Indy and Paul Dukas in Paris, in the capacity of composer and conductor, he was
an active participant in the European musical life and left shining traces in the field of composition,
conducting and music pedagogy. He was of the first ones, who broke with the tradition of national
folklorist academism and turned the face to new, idiosyncratic works, which are very Bulgarian in
their own way, but use a concentrated, expressive and universal musical language based on common
artistic idioms. He has left works in different genres – opera, Lied, ballet, instrumental concerto and
others. His chamber music works, in particular the string quartets, are among the best achievements
of the genre.

The contest is open for all composers, with no limitations of any kind.

Each composer may submit one (1) compositions, which should have been written not earlier than
2005, for one or more instruments from the listet below:

2 (two) violins
1 (one) alto
Percussion – 1 (one) performer
Keyboard – piano, synthesizer, harpsichord – 1 (one) performer

In addition to the acoustic instruments mentioned above, composers can use electronics, in the form
of a prerecorded tape or CD, or/and real time manipulation of sound. Video projections and
interactive video can also be involved, but at least one acoustic instrument should be present –
composition for electronics only are ineligible to enter the competition and will not be considered.

The works submitted may have been published or/and performed, but must be one which has never
been awarded a prize in a previous competition.

Material required to enter the competition:
3 (three) copies of a legible score, properly bound
Name and surname (or a pseudonym, officially registered with a licensed copyright protection
Mailing address (physical address, not only e-mail)
Photo of the participant
Statement on authorship
Statement on ability to provide all materials for the case of prizewinning – parts, data carriers,
information necessary for performance, additional interactive media, software etc.

The prize winning work will be performed within the framework of a special concert organized by
Orange Factory during the next concert season. The international jury will recommend other works
for CD productions.

The entries will be judged by an international jury, which consist of distinguished musician, active in
the fiel of contemporary music.

Composers can attend the premiere performance at their own expense.

The jury reserves the right to not award the prize or to divide the prize between contestants.

The decisions of the jury are definitive and cannot be appealed.

In the case of disputes of any kind,

The competition is being kindly supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria
and the Sofia Municipality.

For the prize, Orange Factory is providing an Euro 1000 fund, which will be distributed according to
the jury's decision.
